Blockchain Catch-upThis is Charles Brett’s start-of-the-week Enterprise Times ‘blockchain catch-up’ 2022-Week 50. Necessarily it is idiosyncratic and selective. It is also the last Blockchain Catch-up of this year (2022) and thereafter. With almost 1000 blockchain-related pieces published, it is time to stop, as a final analysis will explain in a forthcoming Enterprise Times.

As previously with other Blockchain Catch-ups, this is not intended to be comprehensive but does seek to highlight ‘Quick Takes’ on specific developments as well interesting pieces to read, a listing of some (not all) announcements/press releases and pointers to upcoming events.

Quick Take(s) – Charles Brett’s Blockchain Catch-up 2022-Week 50

How blockchain can accelerate social and financial inclusion

The world today has enough resources to ensure a basic standard of living for each and every person. Yet, in reality, we are divided between the haves and have-nots. Global inequality continues to remain skewed in favour of the rich as millions of people live below the poverty line.

Pratik Gauri is a founder in the blockchain ecosystem. He calls “on the world to consider a paradigm shift that moves from ‘for-profit’ to ‘for-benefit’.” He calls “on the world to shift the focus from the fourth industrial revolution’s idea of profit maximisation and crony capitalism to a more sustainable and inclusive approach and to think about the fifth-industrial revolution.”

Quick Take: much of recent blockchain-related news and developments has been negative in nature. This call by Pratik Gauri is worth the read because it offers a positive outlook – if seized (which, unfortunately, seems doubtful). As the last Quick Take in this Blockchain Catch-up series, it seems better to end on an optimistic note rather than drown in the pessimism of the past few months. Thank you. Charles Brett
