He joins after Prasad Ramakrishnan, the current CIO announced that he would retire at the end of the quarter. Ramakrishnan has served as SVP of IT and CIO of Freshworks since he joined in October 2018. He will work closely with Ballal during the transition.

Ramakrishnan said, “Ashwin has a proven track record of implementing strategic IT initiatives, setting vision and strategy, driving large business transformations, and executing for hyper-scale growth.

“I’m confident that his leadership and vision will be instrumental in shaping the future of Freshworks’ IT landscape, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of technological advancements and continue to deliver exceptional value to our stakeholders and customers.”

Ballal will be responsible for all aspects of IT infrastructure, systems, and operations at Freshworks.

Ballal has nearly three decades of leadership experience. He began his career in a hybrid of marketing and IT. Spending 15 years at KLA-Tencor, rising to Vice President & Chief Information, Intelligence and Data Officer.

Most recently, he has spent seven years at Medallia as EVP & Chief Information Officer. Were he helped to lead and transform IT & security, workplace services, corporate procurement, and travel; at the market leader in customer, employee, citizen, and patient experience.

He helped set up new state-of-the-art campuses worldwide and, using his marketing experience, has led several go-to-market initiatives.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

This is a significant appointment by Freshworks. Although it appears Ballal is not immediately joining the executive team. If Freshworks leverages his expertise fully, he may provide some valuable insights and gain a spot at the leadership table.

It will be interesting to see how he evolves the role of CIO at Freshworks. Succeeding Ramakrishnan, who has been a strong influence on the company.
