Heart Online (Image credit pixabay/Geralt)Amazon has selected Infor to become an Amazon HealthLake Partner. Amazon HealthLake can securely store, transform, query, and analyze health data in minutes. The announcement deepens the relationship between Amazon and the industry cloud software vendor. It also recognised that Infor technology has a significant share and attraction within the healthcare market.

As part of the announcement, Infor also launched Infor FHIR Onramp (IFOR) on AWS. This solution, launched at HIMSS Chicago this week, enables organisations to extract, transform, and load data in real-time or batch from HL7, CDA or CSV into FHIR R4 and loads it into the Amazon HealthLake. Customers can then leverage the tools available on HealthLake, such as modern natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), to further analyse the data.

The solution is part of the Infor Cloverleaf Suite, a market leader integration platform for healthcare. This is another step forward for the healthcare-dedicated solution after the Cloverleaf FHIR server was released in July 2021.

Once ingested on the HealthLake platform, healthcare and life sciences companies have a chronological view of individual or patient population health data for query and analytics at scale. The Infor solution enables customers to ingest data from various sources, providing a more holistic view of the patient journey.

IFOR is not mono-directional. Customers can also transform data within the HealthLake back into legacy formats enabling customers to ingest data from sources they might not have a point to point solutions for.

Matt Breslin, Infor executive vice president and general manager, commented, “The face of Healthcare is changing because of the amount of data available to us, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. Now we can support clinical research, ambient transcription of care provider and patient interactions by eliminating the administrative burden of notes, and assess clinical quality metrics across a care community, calculating key performance metrics such as HEDIS instantly.

“The issue many organizations are facing right now isn’t data collection, it’s that most data in existence needs an additional layer of technology to translate it into suitable formats that can be shared and consumed easily. Infor utilizes this experience with IFOR, so customers can quickly leverage the power of AWS for advanced analytics.”

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

Rather than deepen the alliance with AWS, this shows that the relationship is already close and that Infor is keen to ensure that it takes advantage of AWS’s solutions. It shows the natural chemistry between the two vendors, especially in the healthcare market, where they are both looking to expand their coverage in part against the combination of Oracle and Cerner, which also made some announcements for HIMSS.

It will be interesting to see how customers use the two solutions and what use cases they create for the IFOR tool. Cloverleaf enables healthcare organisations to connect various sources of data. With AWS HealthLake, it now has a repository that can cope with the volume of data and the tools to help analyse it.
