Clarizen revolving door Image credit Pixabay/HansClarizen has appointed Matt Zilli as its new CEO. He replaces Boaz Chalamish is appointed as Executive Chairman. This is Zilli’s first CEO role. He comes to the role with a wealth of experience in marketing and sales. For the last seven years, he has worked at Marketo, rising through the marketing ranks to become Interim CMO in 2017 before being appointed Chief Customer Officer. Following the acquisition of Marketo by Adobe he also became VP, Go-to-market for sales, services and customer success at Adobe for 9 months before his departure in November last year.

Zilli commented: “It’s an absolute necessity for enterprises to improve business agility and drive more effective collaboration between teams. Clarizen is poised to seize the leadership position in this highly competitive market. I’m excited to help the company capitalize on the momentum that Boaz, the senior leadership team, and all Clarizen employees worldwide have generated throughout 2019 and into 2020.”

While Clarizen is a leader on the G2 PPM Grid there is still work outstanding to move from visionary to a leader on the latest Gartner Grid. A position it has not held since 2016. Chalamish commented: “I am extremely proud of what our team has accomplished and want to reassure our enterprise customers that maintaining business continuity and staying laser-focused on meeting their needs are our top priorities during this transition. Our commitment to our customers informs every decision we make. Matt brings the expertise and experience we need in building and fostering strong, long-term enterprise customer relationships.”

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

That Chalamish is still executive chairman will mean that the two men will have to work closely together. This is not always easy to accomplish. Zilli has a wealth of experience in go-to-market execution. However, his methods may not align with what Chalamish might have done. They will have to build a working relationship quickly.

It is also a tricky time to assume a new CEO role. Travel is limited due to coronavirus. Zilli will need to forge relationships through video conferencing rather than face to face meetings. However, this is also an opportune time for the business. Companies are realizing that they need cloud-based task management and PPM solutions to increase efficiency during the pandemic. The creation of long email threads and spreadsheets is clearly inefficient. Can Zilli launch some new initiatives to help the company grow he helped to achieve at Marketo?
