Why did Tableau bring Vizable to the market?
Tableau Vice President of Mobile and Strategic Growth, Dave Story, who unveiled the app at the 2015 Tableau Conference in Las Vegas commented: “There is no great app to see and understand a spreadsheet visually, using only a tablet.
“This is an incredibly common scenario. Whether you’re a teacher with students’ test data, a small business with the day’s sales, a cyclist with ride stats, or an executive with the past hour’s web site traffic – Vizable brings analytics to more people by engaging them with their data like never before.”
If Tableau can get this app out to people,they find it easy to use and delivering a benefit to them then they may be accomplishing something for not just themselves to take advantage of but other analytics companies and application developers too.
Once small business identify how they can use analytics and start gaining benefit from the free tool their business will start to grow. At some point there will be a realisation that Tableau Vizable just isn’t up to the job, or its too time consuming to load fresh data sets. At that point Tableau is hoping they turn to them for their first real analytics program.
Conclusion
This is smart move by Tableau by introducing analytics to a much wider market. What Tableau will need to do is reach out to SME’s to make them aware that this is available and they will need to have the time to learn a little about data analytics in order to take advantage of the new app. While there are some tutorials on the website it will be interesting to see if any small business share their methodology on YouTube.
If business managers find this easy to use and not too difficult to move their data from whatever system they are using in order for it to be accessible by Vizable then it will be interesting to see how many of these users Tableau can convert to full customers of their software. While Tableau continues to hit the larger enterprises, helped by the recent partnership announcement with Deloitte, this should help them to grab market share at the SME end of the market.
