I’m sure most of you if not all, have searched for a file on your computer. But I thought it would be nice to have a reminder and a list of steps to follow. And perhaps I might show you something you have never considered to even do.
Searching for things can be quite difficult sometimes when you don’t know what features there are, that will ease the pain.
The first way is to search for a file on you PC using the Windows search bar next to the Windows icon on the status bar. Mine is located at the bottom of my screen.
Here you can type any part of the name of the file you are interested in locating and cannot remember where it is.
- Type the word that you can remember.
- Press the [Enter Key].
- Wait as a pop-up window opens to you with the results for your search.
My search today is for a file that has the word apples in the title.
I do not have any files that do contain that word so the result is this.
Here I am presented with a list of possibilities to look for with the word apples in it. If I select any of these from the list it will open a browser for me and search the internet for that item.
In Files I do have
If I had a few files with the word apples in it then a list would be shown above the search bar. I could open the file from this list.
I have purposely blanked out certain parts of this image. But you can see that there are several files with the word Water in them. Even if it is part of a larger word.
- Click on the name of the file you believe is the one you are looking for and it is opened for you.
You can refine your search to just finding documents or apps of items on the web.
How to refine the search
At the top left of this pop-up window there is a menu bar.
Move your mouse pointer to the drop-down arrow next to the word [More] in the menu bar.
This list drops down.
From this list you can select what type of item you are searching for.
