Did you even know that you can have your particular settings as defaults for all your documents?

Here I am going to show you how to select and make default settings in Word.

Here is sample of a text document.example textThe type face used here is “Calibri” and the size is 11pts. These are the standard font and size settings used by Word.

But say your Design Company wants to use a modern, fancy script font at a larger size. Here is the same text with such settings.

How to create default font formatting

From the Home Tab select the font section Extras Arrow.

Font Dialog boxMake all the changes that you require for EVERY document you create from scratch from now on.

Select the Set As Default button at the bottom left corner.

Select the second choice ‘All documents based on the Normal.dotm Template’

The next time you open Word and create a document using the Normal Template these settings will be there waiting for you.

How to set Paragraph defaults

You can set the defaults for paragraphs in the same way as you setting the font defaults. On the Home tab, but this time in the Paragraph section, select the Extras arrow.

The next time you open Word and create a document using the Normal Template these settings will be there waiting for you.

How to set Default Margins

Microsoft gives you a few useful margins to select from, but you may need different ones as a default for your documents.

From the Layout Tab select the Margins tool.

At the bottom of the list you’ll find ‘Custom Margins….’

On selecting this is the dialog box that appears.Page setup Dialog boxMake your changes and select the Set As Default button.

There you have it three different settings to be used as defaults from now on. Making your document creation just that bit less stressful and quicker.
