Pulseway released version 9.9 of its RMM solution this week. The update sees the general release of the MDM solution for iOS, iPadOS and macOS devices. The release also includes some platform updates that improve the scalability, which is reflected in Pulseway increasing the default log for notifications from 500 to 100,000. Customers can also increase this further if they wish.
Enterprise Times spoke to Edgar Zacharjev, SVP of Product and Strategy at Pulseway, about the release. The release follows Pulseway’s now monthly cadence which has a lot in it that will please customers. It also includes several promised Workflow templates that are available to customers immediately, as well as numerous bug fixes.
MDM Functionality
The new MDM solution will enable firms to manage all their Windows and Apple devices from a single solution. Pulseway has also launched the solution at a very competitive price of 50 cents per device. MDM is also self-service and has a 14-day trial available for customers.
Despite being an early adopter, Pulseway has over 150 clients using the solution, supporting over 8,000 devices. Now that it is generally available, Pulseway hopes that the number will grow quickly.
The release notes cover Pulseway’s onboarding options for Apple users: QR Core, Link enrollment, and USB enrollment.
I asked Zacharjev what the MDM platform supports. He answered, “What people look for is they want to have policies to manage the devices. Policies that allow which applications are installed, which are not allowed to be installed, what the user can do on the device, and what they can’t do on the device.”
The MDM leverages the sophisticated policy engine that Pulseway has developed over the last few years. It will allow IT teams to push out applications and erase devices if they get stolen. It will also support those features supported by Apple Business Manager.
Workflows
At Nexus, the Pulseway annual conference, the firm launched a Workflow Sharing community. Zacharjev shared that the community is active on a Discord channel. He added, “We have it on our forums, and it’s picking up pace, and it’s just encouraging more people to share their templates. We have just got to keep pushing this. I think it’s going to take another half a year before everybody’s fully active on this, and everyone’s aware of the community and the benefits of it.”
Zacharjev hopes that by this time next year, a year after it launched, there will be over 1,000 shared workflows on the forum. These will be in addition to the workflows that Pulseway is embedding into the product. This release includes 8 new workflows.
- Remotely reboot device, subject to approval from the user
- Creates a “BitLocker Status” for audit purposes
- Deploy an application from an EXE file
- Silently deploy an application from an MSI file
- Deploy Datto AV/EDR agents
- Map network drive as the current user
- On-Board a new device
- Run system disk cleanup on C drive
I asked Zacharjev what workflows are being worked on next. He revealed, “Onboarding different types and versions of devices, onboarding users, and other ideas that the workflow team takes from talking to clients—there is a whole roadmap.”
More to come from Pulseway
Zacharjev shared some of Pulseway’s plans for future releases. A new endpoint backup tool is launching, which will be fully integrated into mobile management in Q1 2025. In December, Pulseway is aiming to launch a new integration for single sign-on.
He continued, “We have big updates to the dashboards that we’re working on. Remote Control ad hoc sessions, you don’t need an agent to do this. Deeper integrations with our own PSA. Big updates to our PSA as well, we’re adding an AI component to the PSA, scheduled for the end of November.”
Zacharjev gave a sneak peak of one exciting feature that Pulseway plans to launch in 2025. It is leveraging AI to make root cause analysis of issues easier. Leveraging the data that Pulseway already collects, the AI will be able to determine the root causes of issues across applications and infrastructure, display the findings in a timeline, and provide insights that will make it much easier to determine the root cause analysis.
Enterprise Times: What does this mean
Pulseway already has a significant following and the launch of MDM should make it even more likely that firms will centralise the management of all devices on its platform. This release is significant as it will enable most companies to bring all devices onto their platform. The one component that is missing is support for Android devices.
While this is the first iteration of MDM, Pulseway has been careful to deliver what customers require most in an MDM solution and will add more features as customers want them. The decision to launch Apple over Android was because customer demand was higher for those devices.
However, Zachajev made it clear that they are happy to hear from people willing to participate in the early adopter program and that it should be generally available in the New Year. With 2025 likely to see the integration of AI into the platform, even more workflows, and several other significant updates, it is a good time to be on the Pulseway vehicle.
