Doors Appointment Image by Esa Riutta from PixabayAdvanced has announced the appointment of Andrew Henderson as CTO. He assumes the position from Narinder Sahota. Sahota, who joined the firm in 2021 as Chief Technology Officer, will now become the Chief Services Officer. Sahota will be responsible for the firm’s services organisation. Henderson is a well-travelled CTO with over 20 years of experience. Most recently, he was Chief Information Officer at Westpac New Zealand Limited. Having returned to his native New Zealand after holding several positions abroad.

Who is the new CTO

Henderson will relocate to the UK as he takes up the role at Advanced. The appointment is interesting as much of Henderson’s experience is in Banking. He spent 11 years at ING in several roles in Australia, Ukraine and the Netherlands, rising to CTO, responsible for ING IT infrastructure services across the globe.

He left ING to join Morgan Chase as Managing Director – Head of Engineering & Architecture CCB, relocating to the US. While at Morgan Chase, he represented the bank on the board of BIAN Services GmbH, a banking services firm.

While Henderson may not have the experience of a SaaS firm, he brings a deep experience of running complex global infrastructures for enterprise organisations with multiple internal customers.

Advanced’s recently appointed CEO, Simon Walsh, commented, “We are delighted to welcome Andrew to Advanced. His expertise in leading large engineering teams, agile ways of working and utilising technology to increase the speed and quality of delivery, will be vital in supporting how we transform, develop and deliver our software services for our customers.

“In his role, Andrew’s top priorities will be to develop a highly skilled, energised and proud engineering team, and to simplify and modernise our portfolio, introducing next generation technologies to accelerate Advanced’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) business.”

Henderson commented, “I’m thrilled to be joining Advanced at such a pivotal moment in the organisation’s growth. My passion lies in delivering integrated cloud services with continuous delivery technologies to enable customers to rapidly scale in-line with growth.  At Advanced, our operational infrastructure is a key dependency for our growth and success, and I’m really excited to start building and delivering our new technologies to drive significant growth across our portfolio.”

Enterprise Times: What does this mean?

Henderson looks like the right CTO at the right time for Advanced. His depth of experience within banking, which requires high availability infrastructure, is analogous to the software industry. Advanced has grown rapidly over the last few years through acquisition. This is a smart move by Walsh as he looks to bring on board someone who can transform the infrastructure supporting the Advanced software platforms to scale and presumably improve efficiency and reliability.

It will be interesting to hear what Henderson intends to evolve as he brings disparate engineering teams together. His LinkedIn comment alongside his new role is aimed to inspire those engineers that have joined Advanced over the last few years. “Honoured to serve and inspire the next generation of designers and engineers to deliver great software services that power the world of work, while building their own great careers along the way.”
