Blockchain Catch-upThis is Charles Brett’s start-of-the-week Enterprise Times ‘blockchain catch-up’ 2022-Week 31. Necessarily it is idiosyncratic and selective.

It is not intended to be comprehensive but does seek to highlight ‘Quick Takes’ on specific developments as well interesting pieces to read, a listing of some (not all) announcements/press releases and pointers to upcoming events.

Digital Assets: consultation paper

The Law Commission of England and Wales has published a consultation paper on proposed reforms to the law surrounding digital assets, including determining ownership. As it says, with the expansion of the metaverse, blockchain technology and the increasing use of cryptocurrency and NFTs, the law needs updating to account for their unique characteristics.

Quick Take: The Law Commission is requesting responses by 4th November (2023). Those who respond can do so using this online form. This is a reasonable period of time for what undoubtedly is, and will continue to be, a complex area of law. The Law Commission has done well to move so fast (for the legal system) though what it eventually proposes may never make it into statute.
