In the previous tips on Otter.ai i talked about what Otter.ai can do, how to tag voices and how to update the Summary. In this tip I will show you how to edit the transcript as there may be faults that you need to remove. You can also remove unwanted chat between the participants, or interruptions that may have occurred.
Where to start
Otter.ai will play back the recording and highlight the words as it goes. Listen very carefully, as you may need to change a few things. When you are in the Transcript Tab, towards the right at the top of your window, you will see the [Edit button]. 
- Select that button and click on the first word of your transcript. The Blue highlight will move to the next word as it is spoken by the voice shown on the left of the text.
- To pause the audio, select the [pause button] from the controls at the bottom of the window.
- Select the text you wish to edit. Click, hold, and drag over the text you wish to change.
Note that the first word “Hi” in this particular paragraph is highlighted by Otter.ai and that is the start of the playback. Whereas the slightly darker blue highlight of “I thought” is the text I wish to change and have highlighted with my mouse. You can also see the floating toolbar there.
- Delete the wrong text and type in the correct text.
- Select the [play button] to continue the audio and listen until you find the next text to be edited.
Go through the entire recording and make the changes until you are happy the text is true to the audio recording. Select three steps again to update the summary and transcript timings.
Having gone through these stages, it is not a given that the transcript is completely correct. There still may be a few mismatched voices to text, such as here.

Updating the summary is a good idea, so enjoy the results.
