How to update the Summary and transcript in Otter.ai - Image by Markus Winkler from PixabayIn the two previous tips I showed you what you will see on the first page of an uploaded mp3 file and then how to assign or Tag a new voice. Here I shall show you what to do next to get a more accurate summary and transcript of your recorded discussion.

In the previous tip on assigning a new Tag for a voice you were left with just one paragraph per new voice with the correct name of the voice. After assigning new tags to the recording, you may see this message. Edit message

Selecting the Update button does not always update the Summary in full.

Here is an example of the first summary.Summary before

Here it is after it has been updated with new timings and/or corrected text.

Therefore, I would suggest that you do the following.

In the top right of the window, you will see three ovals to the right of the green link mark.three ovals

  • Select those ovals.

This list appears. list

Three things to do next

  1. Select [Rematch speakers]. This will add the correct name to the correct voice.
  2. Select [Sync text to audio]. This will make sure your text is highlighted for the correct voice.
  3. Select [Regenerate summary]. This will update the summary in the first tab. Giving you a better picture of the recording.

Each of these three actions may take a while so please be patient and get yourself a coffee or tea in the meantime. request message

Otter.ai is just a computer program, and everyone who speaks has different accents and particular ways of pronouncing words. Especially if English is not their first language. Therefore, there may be a need for you to listen to the recording as you read the text and change some of the words Otter.ai used. If that is the case, you might like to do this before the three steps mentioned above.

If some voices still lack a name in their respective tags, you may need to manually tag the correct name for the voice. Here, Speaker 1 needs to be Gerald Combs. name options

Also, you may have recorded some discussions before the meeting opened, which is not needed in this final recording and transcript. If something happened to interrupt the meeting, you may wish to delete the first part of the transcript or indeed any part within the body of the transcript.

To have accurate timings, I suggest that you select [Reset start time] from the list. Thus, all subsequent timings will change to show accurate timings for the new shorter recording and transcript.
