Kossman joins following a decade-long career at Microsoft and a career in academia. As CTO, he will spearhead the development of next-generation solutions that integrate machine learning and real-time data intelligence across the company’s global platform.

AI will help evolve how chargeback management operates. AI offers the capabilities of automating and optimizing the process, from fraud detection to evidence submission.

Chargebee aims to remain at the forefront of Chargeback Management. Using advanced technology such as AI to help customers prevent fraud, reduce friction and restore and build trust between merchants and consumers. While helping to rapidly identify fraudulent activities.

Monica Eaton, Founder and CEO of Chargebacks911, commented, “Donald’s decision to join Chargebacks911 is a resounding validation of our vision and direction. He’s not just one of the top minds in AI and data systems—he’s a builder, a thinker, and a leader who understands how to move fast and make a real-world impact. We’re thrilled to welcome him aboard.”

With Donald Kossmann at the helm of its technology strategy, Chargebacks911 is poised to redefine how the world approaches chargeback management, fraud prevention, and digital trust in commerce.

At Microsoft, Kossman was most recently a Distinguished Engineer and Vice President of Business Copilot. He also served as the Managing Director of Microsoft’s Research Lab in Redmond. He was also GM of Fraud Protection. Denure his time at Microsoft, he played a key role in the development of SQL Hyperscale and Microsoft Copilot Studio.

Both these products play a key role within Microsoft’s Cloud and AI strategy. Importantly, the experience and knowledge he has gained in these roles seem the perfect combination for his position at Chargebacks911.

Prior to Microsoft, he had a distinguished academic career. He obtained his Master’s in Computer Science from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and a Doctorate in Computer Science from RWTH Aachen University. He was a Professor at ETH Zurich for 13 years and a visiting Professor at Stanford.

His 30+ years of experience in computer science, AI, data systems, and fraud protection will allow him to bring a unique viewpoint on the challenge that Chargebacks911 aims to resolve for customers.

In 2012, he helped co-found Teralytics AG, a Big Data startup that powers behavioural insights across industries such as retail, finance, and transportation.

Kossmann commented, “Payments are a pillar of civilization, but trust in digital transactions remains a fundamental challenge. Chargebacks911 is on a mission to reinvent the future of payments with AI at the core. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and work hands-on, solving hard problems with a team that is passionate about creating secure, scalable systems for the digital economy.”

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

Eaton seems to have taken her time in finding a new CTO for the company she helped found. The apparent previous incumbent was Sandeep Menon, who left the company in January 2024.

Kossman appears the ideal candidate, with experience that will give him familiarity with the current product requirements. And the knowledge to take advantage of AI and lead Chargebacks911 into the future. It will be interesting to hear what his technology roadmap looks like and what he gets the team to execute on.
