How product architecture has driven record revenue at Appian (Image Credit: getty-images-ywFk5mzbmaY-unsplash)From 2020 to 2024, Appian saw its revenue double from $304.6M to $617M. 2025 is already on target to beat that. Q1 earnings are up, and the company is projecting an increase of 10-12% in revenue to around $680M. None of that would be possible without the changes that the company has made to its core products and product architecture.

At Appian World 2025, Matt Hilliard, Chief Product Architect at Appian, talked with Enterprise Times about its product architecture. As a 20-year veteran of working at Appian, Hilliard has seen multiple product shifts and developments.

One of the key foundational elements for Appian, according to Hilliard, is its platform. He said, Having a really cohesive, unified platform is something that we really prioritize. In the industry, there’s a lot of platforms that are unwieldy and combined, but only skin deep.

“It’s really important for us to have that cohesion, because somebody building some kind of automation ends up using a lot of the different pieces all at once.”

That cohesive platform is paying dividends. Hilliard identifies the introduction of the Data Fabric, the process automation and integration as all being essential. The latter goes far beyond bringing tools together. It is also part of the way that the company delivers security. That has also played into the introduction of AI across Appian’s products and the ability to accelerate product delivery.
