Adventure, Promotion, Image by Sasin Tipchai from Pixabay Precisely has announced that two more senior leaders have been promoted to its CSuite. Joel Chaplin has been promoted to Chief Information Officer. He was previously VIP Enterprise Applications. Dave Shuman is now the Chief Data Officer. The promotions follow the retirement of Amy O’Connor, who had held both roles since 2019.

Chaplin will report to Jason Smith, the Chief Financial Officer, he will lead the global IT and data analytics teams. His focus will be on scaling the team and supporting the organisation’s continued growth.

Smith commented, “Joel has played a critical role in integrating multiple acquisitions and ensuring data integrity across our systems. His leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our IT infrastructure and continuing to elevate our customer-centric business.”

Shuman will report to Chaplin and will oversee data governance, modelling, and analytics. He will focus on raising the bar of the company’s data capabilities and help optimize corporate performance, quality, delivery, and cost-efficiency through the establishment of cutting-edge data governance, modeling, and analytical capabilities.

Chaplin commented, “As we continuously evolve and learn to identify opportunities that improve our data operations, Dave Shuman has the expertise to successfully lead our data strategy in his new role as CDO.”

Before that, he spent 11 years at Vision Chain in various leadership positions, including COO. He previously held leadership positions at enews.com and WJKC(FM).

He has an MBA in Information Systems from the Fox School of Business at Temple University and a BA from Earlham College.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

Promoting from within gives a level of continuity to the leadership. These are the second and third promotions for Precisely following that of Eric Willcox in January to Chief Revenue Officer. While it is unusual, it is an approach that demonstrates that Precisely succession planning is successful. Both Shuman and Chaplin have the experience to jump into these roles, and promoting from within is generally less disruptive and cheaper than looking to hire from the market.
