BlueVoyant announced the appointment of Rob Joyce as an independent director on its board. BlueVoyant is a leader in the cybersecurity space. Last year it was recognised as the winner in the “AI-based CyberSecurity Solution Provider of the Year” category at the CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards. Its platform delivers an AI-powered internal, external, and supply chain cyber defence.
Joyce brings a wealth of experience working in the NSA and recently founded Joyce Cyber, a cybersecurity advisory firm, after he retired from the NSA. Joyce has over 34 years of federal service, specializing in strategic leadership, cybersecurity, cyber operations, technology and intelligence. He will bring a depth of knowledge about cybersecurity and leadership that will complement the board.

Joyce joins BlueVoyant after it celebrated a successful 2024. It launched a new Security Operations platform in July. The Cyber Defence Platform integrates internal, external, and supply chain defence solutions into a single, cloud-native platform. This is designed to measure and strengthen cyber defence posture cost-effectively. The firm now has over 1,000 customers, with customers from a wide range of industries spread across the world.
In 2024, it was also recognised by Microsoft as its worldwide security partner of the year. As well as titles for the US and Canada. It was also a winner at the Fortress Cybersecurity Awards.

Who is Rob Joyce?
Joyce spent over 34 years at the NSA. During his career there, he was instrumental in safeguarding and eradicating threats to national security systems and critical infrastructure. He held various senior roles at the organisation, rising to Cybersecurity Director. Joyce also spent 21 months in London as the Special US liaison officer, NSA, at the US embassy. In London, he was responsible for intelligence and cybersecurity co-operation between the nations. He worked with UK organisations such as GCHQ, MI-5, SIS, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Defence, and Parliament.
He also acted as the cybersecurity advisor to the Director NSA. Where he reimagined the NSA’s cybersecurity mission. Thus, leading to the creation and design of a new Cybersecurity Directorate to respond to evolving threats.
In February 2017, he was appointed special assistant to the President, Cyber Security Coordinator and Acting Homeland Security Advisor. In that role, he led the development of national and international cybersecurity strategy and policy for the US, overseeing the implementation of policies with government, industry and foreign partners.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean?
Despite leaving the NSA in April 2024, it is surprising that this appears to be his first role on a board of directors. BlueVoyant will be able to take advantage of a wealth of experience, both in global cybersecurity and in organisational change. It will be interesting over the next few months to see how he will guide and influence BlueVoyant in the global and federal markets. He may also help to open up some doors in the UK for BlueVoyant.
