Monta has announced that it has integrated its software platform with Tesla Wall Connectors. The agreement and integration will enable corporate EV users to charge their company cars at home, and employees will be reimbursed if they use the Tesla Wall Connector.
While EV sales slowed in 2024, they soared in the previous five years, reaching 14.8 million between 2020 and 2023. With companies looking to switch to electrical vehicles in their fleet refreshes, it is time-consuming and complex for employees to claim expenses for car charging at home compared to using fuel cards.
Monta has now integrated its software platform with Tesla’s Home Wall Connector hardware. The Home Wall Connector is not restricted to Tesla electric vehicles, which could also be good news for Tesla.
Employees using the Monta app for home charging will also have easy access to over 500,000 public charging points across Europe and the UK. Monta also recently launched in the US. Unfortunately, Monta has confirmed that the integration is unavailable to US customers. It also failed to give a timeline for when it would add this.
Casper Rasmussen, CEO and co-founder at Monta said, “With six out of 10 new cars being company vehicles, businesses are increasingly seeking efficient solutions for employee charging reimbursement.
“We’re excited to integrate with Tesla’s Wall Connector which is one of the most popular models in the market. We’re making it easier to transition to electric vehicles and accelerating the green transformation across Europe and the UK.”
Can this be the catalyst to kickstart corporate EV fleets?
Fleet purchases of EV fleets lag behind private car purchases. According to a recent report by T&E, corporate cars account for 74% of all new car emissions. This is not because there are more of them. There aren’t. New EV registrations for corporate cars were 14.1%, while the private market was 15.6%. The reason is that corporate cars do twice the mileage, have 60% of the total market, and that number is increasing.
Businesses are falling behind in EV adoption despite the incentives that governments are providing, notably substantial tax benefits. In the UK, the Autumn Budget extended tax incentives for EVs to 2030.
Rasmussen added, “Corporate cars account for 74% of emissions from new vehicles, making them a crucial area for reducing CO2. We’re proud to integrate with Tesla Wall Connector to deliver a solution that not only helps lower emissions but also streamlines the transition to electric vehicles for businesses.
“Monta shares a commitment to exceptional user experiences, which is key to driving widespread EV adoption.”
Enterprise Times: What does this mean
This is good news for Monta, as it gets access to home charging units on behalf of corporate fleets. Though not covered in the release, homeowners may also be able to share their charging stations with neighbours and friends and be compensated for the electricity usage. It will be interesting to see how the relationship develops and whether Monta can extend it to its recently launched US operation.
Alok Dubey, Regional Director, Strategic Sales – West at Monta, noted, “Automatic home charging reimbursement is a must-have for the industry in the UK and Ireland, where we have established ourselves as a market leading actor in just three years. This is a game-changer that significantly extends our value proposition.”
