The NCA has shut down the Russian Coms platform, which was being used to defraud victims worldwide. Losses from Russian Coms are thought to be in the tens of millions, with over 100,000 victims worldwide. Three individuals have been arrested in the UK, and details are being shared with other law enforcement agencies around the world. Action by them is expected in upcoming months.

Hamburg DPA sued for Pay or OK at Der Spiegel
Following a complaint against Der Spiegel for a Pay or OK system, the Hamburg DPA controversially authorised its use. However, it made no attempt to contact the complainant and is alleged to have ignored key relevant facts. As a result, the complainant has now filed a complaint against the DPA with the Hamburg Administrative Court.
2023 publishes annual report
noyb has published its 2023 Annual Report. The 30-page document details a number of key projects it has been involved in during 2023 and gives updates on ongoing projects. Among the successes for 2023 has been an increase in the number of cases filed. noyb is working on over 800 active cases, and last year filed more than 40 complaints. Those complaints also saw billions in fines being issued to companies.

Qualys is to unveil TruRisk Eliminate at Black Hat 2024 this week. The company claims that the new product “is a comprehensive remediation solution that extends beyond patching to help organizations further reduce risk.”

US Department of Justice
The Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have launched new actions against TikTok, its parent company ByteDance Ltd, and their affiliates. The action alleges that TikTok continues to violate the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and its implementing regulations (COPPA).
FTC Chair Lina M. Khan, said, “TikTok knowingly and repeatedly violated kids’ privacy, threatening the safety of millions of children across the country. The FTC will continue to use the full scope of its authorities to protect children online — especially as firms deploy increasingly sophisticated digital tools to surveil kids and profit from their data.”
