This is Charles Brett’s start-of-the-week Enterprise Times ‘blockchain catch-up’ 2022-Week 43. Necessarily it is idiosyncratic and selective.
It is not intended to be comprehensive but does seek to highlight ‘Quick Takes’ on specific developments as well interesting pieces to read, a listing of some (not all) announcements/press releases and pointers to upcoming events.
Quick Take(s) – Charles Brett’s Blockchain Catch-up 2022-Week 43
Interpol says metaverse opens up a new world of cybercrime
Interpol’s member countries have raised concerns about how to prepare for possible metaverse crime, Madan Oberoi, Interpol’s executive director for technology and innovation, told Reuters. This could include:
- existing crimes, but taking them to new levels
- child, and people, safety
- virtual realities which facilitate crimes like terror attacks.
Quick Take: Meta may be investing a fortune into its Metaverse. But that does not mean it will be any ‘safer’ than Facebook or Instagram or Whatsapp. Combining a metaverse with blockchain could yet become a horror, for both authorities and citizens.
