Blockchain Catch-upThis is a Charles Brett’s start-of-the-week Enterprise Times ‘blockchain catch-up’ 2022-Week 35. Necessarily it is idiosyncratic and selective.

It is not intended to be comprehensive but does seek to highlight ‘Quick Takes’ on specific developments as well interesting pieces to read, a listing of some (not all) announcements/press releases and pointers to upcoming events.

Quick Take(s) – Charles Brett’s Blockchain Catch-up 2022-Week 35

The Digital Dollar Project launches ‘Technical Sandbox Program’ to explore CBDC infrastructure solutions

The Digital Dollar Project (DDP) has launched its ‘Technical Sandbox Program’. The objective is to jumpstart the exploration of technical implementations of a U.S. central bank digital currency (CBDC). The Program should start in early October 2022 – with the inaugural cohort focusing on cross-border payments.

The Program intends to serve as a collaborative space for the DDP participants and financial service providers. It will offer a neutral environment for the evaluation of technological, business and policy approaches to CBDCs. Program participants will examine real-world technology, explore potential implications to business strategies and operations, and experiment to uncover possible use-case specific solutions.

Quick Take: The DDP is a partnership between Accenture and the Digital Dollar Foundation. It proclaims its purpose as being “to encourage research and public discussion on the potential advantages of a digital dollar, convene private sector thought leaders and actors, and propose possible models to support the public sector. The DDP will moderate programs with interested stakeholders to measure the value of and and establish practical steps that can be taken to establish a digital dollar.” While it is unclear whether anyone will listen or take note of the DDP’s results, there is clear value in having a mediated technical sandbox within which potential solutions can be explored.
