Professional Services Image by Gerd Altmann from PixabayMission Control launched its first of three updates for 2022 this week. It included Resource Forecasting, a new feature that helps professional services firms to better forecast resource requirements using Salesforce Opportunities.

Profi, the startup focused on supporting coaches, trainers, consultants, and therapists, raised $6 million in a seed funding round. The Answer Company, a Sage Intacct partner, revealed a new partnership with Mavenlink and intends to sell the combination of Mavenlink, Sage Intacct and Salesforce as a trinity of solutions.

Asana

Asana launched Asana Flow, a solution that will help teams build, run and improve workflows. At the heart of Asana Flow is a new Workflow Builder. This enables users to either design, build and run workflows to create processes or leverage existing pre-built templates with the Template Library.

Asana App components make the workflows even more powerful as they enable Workflow to include external applications. These include new integrations with Miro, Jotform and, coming soon, Google Drive. Asana will also add a new developer toolkit to enable customers to build their applications, further extending the platform.

Varun Parmar, Chief Product Officer, Miro, commented: “Taking control of workflows is critical to ensuring that shifts to hybrid workplaces and asynchronous ways of working are successful in the enterprise. Deepening Miro’s integration with Asana will keep process, structure and creativity linked for organizations as they strive to innovate. Together, we’re committed to unlocking new ways to ideate, create and move projects forward wherever the work is happening.”

BigPicture

Creative Assembly, the UK games developer behind Total War and Alien Isolation, leverages BigPicture to help manage its projects. The company has over 850 employees spread across 4 locations in the UK and Bulgaria. Before using BigPIcture, the teams already used Jira; however, it did not have the long term planning the company needed.

They acquired BigPicture and now use it to manage Sprint planning and road mapping. BigPicture also supports both Scrum and SAFe methodologies that Creative Assembly use.

GanttProject

Desktop project scheduling app GanttProject has revealed the latest release of its open-source solution. Version 3.2 contains three major components.

There is a completely rewritten new task table where users can filter and sort tasks. This enables users to remove completed tasks from their view. In a larger project, users can quickly identify whether any tasks are incomplete. Some properties are now visible on the task table as a coloured icon, saving screen space and enabling the user to identify a task’s status quickly.

They can also sort tasks according to different criteria. The sort function only changes the view; it does not change the hierarchy of a task within a project.

It is easier to manage columns. A new cog button appears on the task view (rather than buried down a menu tree). Once clicked, the user can manage columns, resize the view to fit the end date or hide the end date. The manage columns interface was also updated to make usage easier.

The Print Dialog is also rewritten. It now includes the ability to print pages as images in a ZIP archive if printing fails or there is no printer available. This ensures that the layout is preserved, each page is saved as a .png file within the archive. Page settings are now persistent so that it is no longer necessary to reset the page size to A3 every time a Gantt chart is printed.

The update also includes several bug fixes, including some fixes to the command line capabilities.

Scoro

The February update of Scoro focused on improvements to its Financial Reporting capabilities. There is now a revenue vs cost comparison in the Financial Summary Report. Users can now apply recognition dates for invoices, bills, and expenses. The invoice sums can also be periodized across the duration of a project to deliver a better understanding of project profitability.

In addition, Scoro has improved the import function. There is now an option to map import lines to relevant financial accounts when importing sales or purchase documents. This update will be available over the coming weeks as the update is rolled out.

Future updates will improve utilization forecasting, increase efficiency with the ability to bundle tasks together for dependencies, and view subtotals in quotations and other documents.
