Announced on stage at Epicor Insights earlier this year it was well received by the audience and existing customers. The intent is to reduce the pain point for Sales order entry processes for ERP solutions. Research has shown that a manual order entry process can cost as much as $24 to $41 per order.

The new DocStar solution uses OCR technology to capture and “read” information presented through a variety of sources. Organisations accepting sales orders through formats including fax, paper, email, pdf, jpg, and tiff files are able to process them automatically using OCR software. Once the data is captured it is checked against existing quotations and can validate other things such as parts availability. Where doubt is raised, the order is held pending a human interaction for verification and correction. This can eliminate much of the tedious burden of order entry for staff, freeing them up for more valuable work.

Tom Franceski, vice president and general manager, DocStar commented: “As the speed of business increases, sales-order entry—the gateway to the fulfillment process—can become a bottleneck that prevents businesses from growing.

With DocStar ECM Sales Order Automation, organizations can do more with fewer resources, gaining better visibility via real-time access into key data, while improving productivity and reducing costs.  DocStar ECM Sales Order Automation extends the value of the DocStar platform across the enterprise.”

Epicor lists several benefits the solution offers including:

  • Reduce overall costs
  • Improve transaction efficiency
  • Achieve measurable efficiencies
  • Enhance accountability
  • Accelerate business processes
  • Improve fulfillment speed
  • Eliminate transposition errors
  • No more lost or misplaced orders

It also integrates to Epicor ERP and DocStar is also capable of integrating to Microsoft, Sage, Oracle, Infor and SAP ERP solutions.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean?

This product was well received at Epicor Insights and customers that go through painful manual sales order entry processes may well consider it worth a look. The solution compliments the Epicor ERP solution well. It also delivers the kind of automation that other vendors are trying to replicate either developing themselves or through a third-party solution.

This is a powerful addition to DocStar ECM as it looks to make its own place in the Enterprise Content Management marketplace. It may help it rise up in the leaders quadrant of the latest G2 grid for enterprise Content Management.
