DSI has announced the opening of its Supply Chain App Store. The store contains hundreds of apps to support the DSI Supply chain platform. There are several categories in the store including the ERP applications that DSI integrates into. These include: Oracle NetSuite, IFS, SAP, Oracle Applications Cloud, Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One, Oracle E-Business Suite and Microsoft Dynamics AX.
The majority of the apps are supported on multiple devices. These include Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, ruggedized handheld devices and Windows PC. Searching for apps is easy and users can also use categories to narrow their search. The high level categories include: Cloud Inventory, Automated Data Collection (ADC), Service, Sales and Customer Engagement.
Each app has a brief description of each app and at least one video demonstration. Pricing and downloads are not available to the public facing site. Customers are able to access more information and one assumes download the apps from the site.
Jim Hoskins, Vice President, App Strategy and Development, DSI commented: “We’re giving supply chain professionals a powerful new tool for real-time visibility across the supply chain and leaping ahead of the curve when it comes to enabling digital transformation. Our team is dedicated to developing apps that push the boundaries of what’s possible in the supply chain. We’re changing the game when it comes to equipping supply chain companies to thrive in the digital economy as it relates to all things inventory.”
Conclusion
This is a smart move by DSI. It enables its customers to rapidly locate, investigate and deploy the various applications in its store. Unfortunately, when using the search or categories options it is not clear which ERP solutions apps work with. The only was to know is to go through the ERP selection option.
DSI claims that there are hundreds of apps available on the store. There is actually 172 at present with the same apps available for each of the ERP applications listed. Accessing the system going through categories does not show which of the ERP applications are supported. This infers that each application will support all the ERP solutions that DSI integrates with. Most companies with a single ERP solution will therefore have only the 172 apps to select from rather than the hundreds that DSI claims.
