Cloud services company nGenx has announced it is to include Microsoft Office 2016 in the nGenx Cloud Application Catalog. Users of nGenx nFinity nWorkspace solution will now be able to deploy Office 2016 across all their computing devices from desktop to laptop, tablet to phone.

According to JD Helms, president, nGenx: “We expect the Microsoft Office 2016 productivity suite to rank among our most popular cloud applications As with all our applications, users have the option to access them as an application service or to use in conjunction with nFinity nWorkspace for a complete workspace as a service.”

Office 2016 becomes just the latest of over 1,800 applications to make its way into the nGenx Cloud Application Catalog. nGenx is giving customers a choice as to how they install Office 2016. They can buy it as a standalone application or they can add it to their nGenx nWorkspace (WaaS) installation.

What will appeal to many customers is that nGenx is enabling monthly licences. For many smaller businesses this monthly approach to licensing is a significant boost. It means that they can now deliver applications to temporary staff or contractors without losing control of their software budgets. It also removes the temptation to use trial copies of software in order to get over short term access requirements.

One of the long term goals here for nGenx will be to hope that customers move away from standalone devices and onto its Workplace as a Service solution. This is a market that has been growing quickly over the last few years as companies with Desktop as a Service and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) look for the next generation of solutions in the cloud.

Conclusion

This is about more than just adding Office 2016 into its Cloud Application Catalog for nGenx. It is an opportunity for them to upsell their support and more importantly their WaaS solution. It will be interesting to see how many customers buy into the nWorkspace solution after starting with just a single application especially as companies look for greater standardisation of desktops across multiple devices.
