So you’ve landed a new role as head of IT, possibly even CIO, congratulations.  Now however the hard work begins.  The question is what you need to do next.  There are several tips from industry experts and below are four links to papers/articles that may give you an insight.  This column will endeavour to publish some tips from current and retired CIO’s who will share some tips about what they found useful.

Gartner has a whole division dedicated to supporting CIO’s, including a shadow CIO and they have also published a toolkit for the first 100 days.  The detailed version is not free however, and this was created in 2012: The CIO’s First 100 Days: A Toolkit – Gartner

Accenture, the global consulting firm recognise in their “Go live on day one: The path to success as a new CIO” that you need to hit the ground running. Their approach is a simple three step approach, though no doubt expanded in the full report.

Finally in Forbes, in an interview with  Martha Heller, the president of Heller Search Associates she offers An Executive Recruiter’s Advice For The CIO’s First 100 Days.
